How to create single sign on certificate for Service Market Place(SMP)?

This article answers following queries:
Ø  How to create single sign on certificate for Service Market Place?
Ø  How to apply for an SAP Passport in Service Market Place?
Ø  What is the use of configuring SAP Passport?

Basis administrator logs in to the Service Market Place(SMP) daily to perform various activities like sap note search, raising an Oss message, creating/maintaining other Oss users, open connection to SAP and downloading patches etc
Most of us might have encountered a situation like SMP prompts to authenticate you so many times.  We might have felt that it is very time consuming/cumbersome process as we have to key in s-user id and pwd always whenever you would like to perform any action. First of all remembering s-user id is a challenge as it would be like S followed by 10 digits.
Even if some of the browsers facilitate “remember password” option, it won’t serve good in all the places of SMP and system prompts again and again to enter credentials most of the times.
To simplify this process there is a concept known as “single sign” for SMP.
If you could configure this in your browser then SMP won’t prompt you to authenticate yourself always and it uses single sign certificate instead of that. This saves lot of time and effort for a basis administrator.
Please follow below process to configure the single sign on certificate for Service Market Place (SMP)

1)    Login to Service Market Place by following this link

             http://service.sap.com/support

2)    System prompts you to enter your Oss id and password twice.
Authenticate yourself with your s-user id and password.

3)    Once you successfully authenticate, you will be directed to the home page of SMP
From there navigate to my profile -> maintain single sign on certificate as shown in below screen.

Once you click on Maintain single sign on certificate link, it displays below screen

In this screen, please provide your password.

System then gives following 2 alerts. Click ok on both of these alerts

Once this is done, system creates single sign on certificate for you which allows you to login without providing credentials as shown in the below screen

As per above screen, please close your browser and open market place again. It won’t prompt you to enter credentials. It will authenticate you based on your certificate/passport created for your browser.

Please note, this single sign on will work only on the browser you have created this passport.  If you are using more than one browser in your desktop, you have to perform this task for those browsers also in case you would like to use them also to access SMP.
