Difference Between Linear & 2D Barcodes

For someone who isn't already familiar with barcode technology, knowing the difference between a linear and a two-dimensional barcode is like knowing the secrets of the universe. Very simply put, linear barcodes look like "tick marks" of black bars in rectangular fashion while two-dimensional barcodes are generally square in shape. That's the most basic explanation that gets the curious off on the right foot, but there's more to it than that.
