Code 39 is one of the most common barcode symbologies in use today. Also known as Code 3 of 9, Logmars or HIBC, the Code 39 barcode is a self-checking barcode font that can be encoded simply by surrounding the data to encode with asterisks (*) and then applying the Code 39 barcode font to that string of text. Once that is done, the barcode is created correctly and should be readable with any barcode scanner that has Code 39 enabled.
Code 39 is an excellent choice for those who are looking for a barcode generation solution that can encode upper case letters, numbers and - . $ / + %. Lower case letters can be encoded using Extended Code 39 which are also available as part of the IDAutomation Code 39 Barcode Font Advantage Package.
Code 39 barcodes are popular both because they are easy to use and scan, but also because they can be integrated into just about any application. The IDAutomation Technical Support staff has put together an excellent installment in our Barcode Teacher video tutorial series.
