Difference between Barcode Fonts and Components

by Nate Schubert

If you're looking for a way to generate barcodes for your business or even for personal reasons, the prospect of finding the right product can be challenging. For starters, do you go with Barcode Fonts, Barcode Components or a Stand-Alone Application? While the answer may be simple for the IDAutomation Sales & Support staff, many interested visitors can get lost here.

So, what is the difference between a Barcode Font and a Barcode Component? In short, barcode fonts are standard fonts that need to be encoded before a readable barcode can be created while Barcode Components are graphic encoders, meaning they do the encoding inside the object. Check out the video below for more detailed information and let us know if you have any comments or questions.

Using Word 2007 Barcode Add-In on Windows XP

Consider this tip if the barcode add-in TBarCode Office fails on Windows XP and Word 2007.
Most likely you need to install the Primary Interop Assemblies (PIA) manually. These assemblies can be downloaded as an extra package from Microsoft: Primary Interop Assemblies
Install PIA, then start Microsoft Word 2007 and open the Word Options.
Switch to "Add-Ins", select "Manage: COM Add-ins" and click on "Go...". In the "COM Add-ins" dialog mark "TEC-IT TBarCode Office (Word Add-In)" and confirm the dialog with OK.
After restarting MS Word the Add-Ins tab will appear and the TBarCode Office Add-In will be available.

by Nate Schubert

There are a lot of complicated definitions in the world of barcode technology, and X-Dimension is definitely one of those terms that keeps customers guessing. Simply put, the X-Dimension is the width of the narrow bar of a barcode. This measurement is usually made in centimeters of millimeters.

For more information about the X-Dimension and how to calculate the X-Dimension of a barcode you're working with, check out the video tutorial below. Let us know if you have any comments or questions and we'll be happy to address them here.

What is the Difference between Code 128 A, B, and C?

by Nate Schubert

The Code 128 barcode symbology is divided into 3 separate character sets; A, B and C, with auto being the fourth and final set which uses a combination of A, B and C. This is a point of confusion for those new to the field of barcode technology, and there aren't a lot of places on the Internet that properly explain the subtle differences between the two.

Taken straight from the IDAutomation knowledge base, the differences between the various Code 128 Character Sets are fully explained in the video tutorial below, complete with follow-up examples and scenario's to help you better understand.

Create Standard Barcodes using IDAutomation Universal Barcode Fonts

by Nate Schubert

Especially useful in Mac, IDAutomation Universal Barcode Fonts allow users in Windows, Mac, Linux and Unix to create a variety of barcodes such as Code 128, Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5 and even USPS fonts such as Intelligent Mail from a single font. This product works a bit differently than traditional barcode fonts, using a string of letters as its encoded data.

While the art of barcode generation is a bit different with Universal Barcode Fonts, that doesn't mean it's difficult to understand. Check out the video tutorial below for step-by-step instructions about creating standard barcode types with Universal Barcode Fonts and don't hesitate to comment if you still have questions.
